Benefits of Ceiling Fans in Winter

Think ceiling fans are limited to keeping you cool…think again!

Many of us use ceiling fans to help cool our home in the heat of summer but did you know they are just as useful to warm our houses in winter!

As our homes are generally closed up in winter there is less air circulation and the warm air rises up being trapped at the ceiling, while the cooler air is down below with us.

With a simple flick of a switch (reverse mode or winter mode) the fan blades change direction forcing all the warm air trapped at the ceiling downwards, warming up the room. For best effect keep the fan on low speed.

This circulation of evenly distributed warm air heats up rooms more quickly therefore shortening the time for heaters to work. Along with other factors like climate, house & heating methods, the result can be a saving of up to 24% on heating costs.

If you live in a two story home, installing a ceiling fan at the top of an open staircase can help balance the uneven heating between hot upstairs rooms and cool downstairs rooms.

Using ceiling fans in reverse mode during winter also has the added benefit of preventing air stagnation against windows. This has two wonderful results; reduction of window condensation & increased humidity which limits dehydration of skin in cold environments.

So…there are many benefits of ceiling fan usage in winter which include: warming up your room quicker, saving money on heating costs, reducing window condensation & even helping to moisturise your skin.
