Clipsal’s USB Charger Mech – An Exciting New Way to Charge Your Devices

Are all your power outlets at home taken over by bulky USB power packs – each one set up to charge another one of your devices? Clipsal by Schneider Electric now has an innovative solution for this – the new 30 Series USB Charger Mech.

What is it?

Unlike traditional USB chargers that have to be plugged into a power point, the USB Charger Mech is essentially a USB wall socket – you just plug in your devices directly into the socket.

Providing an output current of up to 1.2A at a supply voltage of 230V AC and a frequency of 50Hz, this device fits all standard 30 Mech aperture wall plates. It can also be retrofitted into existing Clipsal wall plates of 30 Mech apertures.

Up to 3 USB charger Mechs can be fitted on to one plate, which means that up to 3 devices can be charged on the same wall plate, without an external power board. You can also combine one power outlet along with one (or two) USB outlets.

Sleek and flexible

Flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of using the 30 Series USB charger Mech – you can use it to charge all your portable devices including smart phones, tablets, e-book readers, portable music devices and cameras – making the original chargers redundant.

If you have ever forgotten your phone charger on a trip, you will understand why this is so important. Though micro-USB chargers for use with electronic devices have been standardised for a while now, in reality the charging times vary and in some cases, it does not charge properly at all.

This charger Mech can be used with most Clipsal series plates including Standard, Saturn Data, Slimline, C2000 and more. It is also available in different colour caps and different coloured plates. Home owners can use it to match their décor while commercial environments like hospitals can use it to match their power colour code (different colours for different power types).

Safe and efficient

Designed for Australian conditions, this Clipsal product has been certified for all EMC and safety standards – the BCS 1.2USB charging standard, safety standards AS/NZS 3100 and IEC 60950-1, and the EMC standard AS/NZS 4665 and CISPR 22.

It also has built-in protections for overcurrent and temperature, so that your devices remain protected against power surges and overheating. The Separated Extra Low Voltage (SELV) feature also makes it extremely safe to use.

Efficiency is another of its features: With built-in cable compensation, charging time is reduced when compared to the charging times with manufacturer-provided chargers.

Minimal energy consumption

The USB outlet has minimal energy consumption in standby mode. This means that when used in power circuits instead of traditional General Purpose Outlets, the maximum circuit demand is reduced. This is especially important in commercial applications like in hotels, apartments and hospitals, as this can reduce infrastructure requirements as well as operating costs.

When all these benefits are considered along with the reliability that is the hallmark of all Clipsal by Schneider Electric products, you know you have a winner.

Think of the convenience of plugging in your devices into any USB outlet anywhere – at hotel rooms, universities, restaurants – without carrying a bulky charger around. This could well become a reality once the 30 Series USB Charger Mech catches on.
